An Analysis of Influencing Factors of After-School Self-Care in Elementary School Students Using Panel Ordered Logit Model
Lim Hye-Jung

Abstract
This study aims to answer the following research question: what are the affecting factors of after-school self-care for 1st-3rd graders? For this purpose, two different data sources were used in this research: Korean Children & Youth Panel Survey 1st Graders¡¯ Panel (1st-3rd waves) and the result of supply and demand for after-school care service analyzed by National Assembly Budget Office. In order to identify the factors influencing the possibility of caring for four levels separated by after-school self-care in elementary schools, I used a panel ordered logit model with the longitudinal data of 2,116 elementary school students. This result shows that double income families have higher probability of self-care gap than single income families, and a higher education level of parents¡ªa college or university degree or above¡ªand students with older siblings are also positively associated with a higher possibility of self-care gap than a lower level of education¡ªhigh school degree or below¡ªand those without older siblings. Also, increase in school grades and low family income showed higher probability in self-care gap. Furthermore, I confirmed the marginal effect on the possibility of belonging to each of the four levels classified according to degree of after-school self-care. As a result, the marginal effect of the household income showed that the degree of change in the influence of household income is somewhat different according to income levels at each level of self-care.
